CRISIS IN HAPPYLAND

the pleasure centers have been plundered
ravaged,
ransacked,
rendered useless
while apathy
foulest apathy
sweeps ever under
wave after wave
destroying foundations
exposing desire
eroding sensation

leaving the nurturing receptors of my subconscious
in seemingly permanent disrepair

hemorrhaging endorphins through structural breaches
confusion,
corrosion,
corruption rampant
as empathy
fleeting empathy
slowly leaches
displaced by anguish
systemic intrusion
synaptic imbalance
profound disillusion

while the bitter angels of my nature
recklessly preside over desperation and despair
